Te Maramataka Downloadable Charts – For Your Rohe, For Your Iwi

Our downloadable maramataka charts are uniquely created with our own mita, reflecting the reo, tikanga, and environmental patterns of our rohe. These are not generic calendars. They are grounded in researched, authentic mātauranga and shaped by local observation, ensuring they speak directly to the rhythms of our whenua and our people.

Each chart has been carefully developed to support you in aligning your daily life with the natural cycles of the marama. These cycles influence our energy, our relationships, our productivity, and our connection to te taiao. When we begin to move in rhythm with these phases, we create more balance across tinana, hinengaro, and wairua.

Your chart includes the original ingoa for each night of the marama specific to your iwi or rohe, along with brief guidance points focused on energy levels. This allows you to understand when energy may be high, low, or fluctuating, supporting you to respond in a way that is more aligned and intentional.

These charts are provided as high quality downloadable PDFs that you can access on your phone, tablet, or computer, making them practical wherever you are, whether at home, at mahi, or out on the whenua. You can also print them out to suit your space. Many choose to take them to places like Warehouse Stationery to print in large format for their wall, workspace, or whare, creating a strong visual reminder to live in alignment with the maramataka.

How to Read Your Maramataka

The maramataka follows the phases of the moon, with each night carrying its own energy and influence. It is not just a calendar of dates, it is a system of observation and relationship with the natural world. Rather than planning by the Gregorian calendar alone, the maramataka invites you to notice patterns in energy, behaviour, and environment. The real understanding comes from pairing the chart with your own lived experience.

Where to Begin – Starting with Nonihape for Whanganui or whiro for other Iwi/ rohe (New Moon)

Always begin reading your maramataka from Whiro, the first night of the lunar cycle, which aligns with the new moon. To find when Whiro begins each month, you can check reliable lunar phase sources such as Time and Date, which provides accurate timings for Aotearoa. Once the new moon occurs, this marks the beginning of your maramataka cycle. Whiro is typically associated with low energy, stillness, reflection, and withdrawing to conserve energy. From nonihape or Whiro, you move forward through each night in sequence, following your chart as the marama grows and energy begins to build again. Because lunar phases can shift late at night, you may choose to begin Whiro either on that night or the following day, depending on your own observation and tikanga.

A Living Practice

Your maramataka chart is a tool, but the deeper practice is in your observation. Notice how you feel, notice your whānau dynamics, observe the weather and environment, and watch your productivity and energy. Over time, patterns will begin to emerge that are unique to you and your place. We encourage you to track your experiences over at least three lunar cycles, as this is where your understanding deepens and the maramataka becomes something you live, not just something you read.

Reconnect. Realign. Return.

Reconnect to your mita, realign with your natural rhythms, and return to the wisdom of your whenua. This is more than a chart, this is a way of living.
